Gabon Strip Treatment against Varroa

(The Czech Method)

1. Equipment

• Poach containing 50 Gabon Strips and a hook sample
• Reusable wire hooks
• Rubber gloves

2. Distribution method

• Wood veneer strips
• Active ingredient: 1.5 mg of acrinathrin in 1 strip

3. Application

• Spring or fall treatment (no honey supers!)
• Dosage: 2 - 3 strips between brood combs
• Exposure: 24 - 30 days (2 brood periods)

4. Effectiveness

• Kills varroa on the bees which came to contact with a strip
• Wooden strips are more effective compared to plastic ones
• Comparable to fluvalinad (pyrothroid)
• Experience showed effective control where Apistan resistance occurred
